Everything You Need to Know
About Devon Rex.

Devon Rex cats are built for company. They are people-first animals – sitting on shoulders, supervising the cooking, sleeping under the duvet rather than at the end of the bed. The coat is short, soft and rippled rather than curly-tight, and it sheds very little.

Every kitten here is reared inside the house, handled daily from the first week, and socialised around ordinary noise before ever going home.

Key Breed Traits

Three things almost every Devon Rex owner tells us within the first month.

The Velcro Cat

Devon Rex are unusually attached to their people. Expect a cat who greets you at the door, follows you between rooms and settles wherever you happen to be sitting.

Clown of the Cat World

They stay playful well into adulthood - fetching, climbing, hiding in bags and learning tricks. Intelligent enough to be genuinely funny, and to need the stimulation.

A Low-Shedding Coat

The short rippled coat sheds far less than most breeds and needs almost no grooming. No cat is truly hypoallergenic, but many allergy sufferers cope noticeably better with a Devon Rex.

Frequently Asked Questions

Very. They are sturdy, sociable and tolerant of handling, which makes them one of the better breeds for a household with children. We only ask that children are taught to let a cat come to them rather than picking one up mid-nap.

No cat is genuinely hypoallergenic – the allergen is a protein in saliva and skin, not the hair itself. That said, the Devon Rex sheds very little, and a great many allergy sufferers find them far easier to live with. If allergies are a concern, we strongly recommend spending time with an adult Devon Rex before committing.

Almost none for the coat – brushing can actually damage the delicate wave, so a weekly wipe with a soft cloth is plenty. Their large ears do need checking and gentle cleaning every week or two.

They cope, but they do not love it. Devon Rex are genuinely people-oriented and can become bored or clingy if left for long stretches every day. Many of our families choose two kittens, or already have another cat at home.

Never before twelve weeks. They go home fully weaned, litter-trained, vet-checked and with their vaccination course started – and only when they are genuinely ready, whatever the date on the calendar.
