Everything you wanted to ask
Living with a Devon Rex, how adoption works, and exactly where we stand on the things that matter. If your question is not here, just ask.
Living with a Devon Rex
Are Devon Rex good with children and other pets?
Yes, and notably so. They are sturdy, sociable and tolerant of handling, and they generally get along well with dogs and other cats. We only ask that children learn to let a cat come to them rather than lifting one mid-nap.
Are they hypoallergenic?
No cat is genuinely hypoallergenic – the allergen is a protein found in saliva and skin, not the hair itself. The Devon Rex does shed very little, and many allergy sufferers find them far easier to live with, but we would never promise you a reaction-free home. If allergies are a real concern, please spend time with an adult Devon Rex before committing.
How much grooming does that coat need?
Very little, and less than you would think. Brushing can actually damage the delicate wave, so a weekly wipe with a soft cloth is plenty. Their large ears do need a gentle check and clean every week or two.
Do they get cold?
They do feel the cold more than a heavy-coated breed, which is exactly why they seek out laps, radiators and the inside of your jumper. A warm bed and a reasonably heated house is all that is needed.
How active are they?
Very, and for life. Devon Rex stay playful well into adulthood – climbing, fetching, investigating cupboards. Give them height to climb and a few puzzle toys and they are content.
Can they be left alone while I work?
They cope, but they do not love it. This is a genuinely people-oriented breed that can become bored or clingy if left for long stretches daily. Many of our families take two kittens, or already have another cat at home.
Adoption and timeline
How do I reserve a kitten?
Send us a message about the kitten who caught your eye. We will talk honestly about temperament and fit, answer everything you want to ask, and only then discuss a reservation. There is never any pressure to decide on the spot.
How old are kittens when they come home?
Never before twelve weeks. They go home fully weaned, litter-trained, vet-checked and with their vaccination course started – and only when they are genuinely ready, whatever the date on the calendar says.
How long does the whole process take?
Usually two to four weeks from first message to homecoming, depending on the kitten’s age. If your chosen kitten is still young, the wait is simply until they are old enough.
Can I visit or see more photos?
Absolutely. We are happy to send additional photos and short videos of any kitten, and to arrange a video call so you can see them moving about and being themselves.
What if the kitten I want is already reserved?
We will tell you straight away rather than letting you hope. We can add you to the list for the next litter, or talk about which of the current kittens might suit you just as well.
Our policies
What health guarantee do you provide?
Every kitten leaves with a written health guarantee and full records. Both parents are DNA-tested clear for Devon Rex congenital myasthenic syndrome and heart-screened by echocardiogram. If a vet finds a congenital problem in the first days at home, we want to hear from us first – we will make it right.
What is included in the price?
The vet check, worming, vaccinations given to date, microchipping where age-appropriate, the health guarantee, a starter pack with familiar food and a comfort blanket, and our support for the rest of that cat’s life.
Do you require neutering?
Yes. Our kittens are homed as companions on the understanding they will be neutered. Older kittens go home already neutered; younger ones go with a written agreement to arrange it at the appropriate age.
What if my circumstances change?
Then you come back to us. We ask every family to return a cat to us rather than rehome or surrender them elsewhere, at any point in that cat’s life, no questions and no judgement.
Do you ship kittens?
We do not ship kittens as unaccompanied cargo. We arrange homecoming in person, or through a reputable accompanied pet courier where distance makes that necessary.
Still have a question?
Ask us anything at all – there is no such thing as too many questions when you are choosing a cat you will live with for fifteen years.
